The offering started in early 2020 with COVID-19 forcing people to work from home. Not all homes are set up to handle working from home and having children accomplish schooling from home forms the need for more workspace than what is provided at locations such as coffee shops or a library. Using a hotel room to work as a home office is a perfect match for helping the community and advancing the vision of Super 8 West Knoxville – Farragut.
A bit of background on this offering. There was a 2002 train derailment in the local area involving toxic gases. There was also a 2015 train derailment in a different local area involving toxic gases. Those residents needed more than temporary housing. They also needed more of a home office than they had at their homes before these accidents. We considered how we could help meet the needs of these local residents as an offering of our hotel property.
Our rooms have both wired Internet service and wireless Wi-Fi mesh network Internet service, a large flat-screen TV with HDMI inputs, a desk with a desk chair, and a padded easy chair. Additionally, the benefit of each room having a microwave and refrigerator to help reduce lunch costs. These amenities help form the perfect combination for remote workers needing access to a quiet workspace and help keep their food costs down. Finally, the ability to control the room temperature at the workspace is a benefit not found in most offices.
I spoke with the local newspaper to get the word out to the community about this offering. I wanted to know if the local community was in agreement with this offering as a matter of respect to them. The feedback about this offering has confirmed it is a good offering for our local customers needing a home office beyond their residence.
